The Rolex/Tudor relationship dates back to 1926 when Hans Wilsdorf, the founder of Rolex SA, acquired the Tudor company in an effort to create a more affordable alternative to the flagship Rolex name. Producing watches with similar likeness side by side, both Tudor and Rolex are revered for their quality in craftsmanship and brand integrity. The Tudor Oyster Prince was released in 1952 as the more affordable option to the mainstream Rolex Datejust. Both Rolex and Tudor are significant and enduring watch brands, with the former created as a high-end luxury brand and latter being realized as a more utilitarian cousin to the coroneted head of the family. However, the ‘Shield or Rose’ brand has in recent years become one of the hottest collectable brands on the vintage scene.
