Rolex Vintage Datejust Oysterquartz 17013 36mm (1976)

The Rolex Oysterquartz Datejust ref. 17013 is one of the most distinctive watches Rolex has ever produced, representing the brand’s response to the quartz era while introducing a completely different case and bracelet design language from the traditional Datejust. This 1976 example combines a rich blue dial with an 18ct yellow gold fluted bezel and a two-tone Oyster bracelet, creating a striking blend of vintage luxury and 1970s industrial styling.

Unlike conventional Datejust models with rounded Oyster cases, the Oysterquartz line features sharp angular edges, an integrated bracelet design, and a much more architectural wrist presence. The 36mm case wears larger than its dimensions suggest due to its broad, flat surfaces and integrated construction. The blue dial adds depth and contrast to the warm yellow gold accents, making this one of the more visually desirable configurations of the reference.

At the heart of the watch is the Rolex Calibre 5035 quartz movement—an in-house chronometer-certified movement developed specifically for the Oysterquartz line. Unlike ordinary quartz watches of the era, the Calibre 5035 was engineered and finished to Rolex standards, offering exceptional accuracy and durability.
