A tourbillon is a mechanism that constantly rotates the balance wheel, balance spring and escapement while the movement is running. This is done to counter the affect of Earth’s gravity on the isochronal properties of the balance wheel and spring. The tourbillon was invented by Breguet in 1795 and patented in 1801.

With so few examples for sale and such strong demand for rare complications, this is an opportunity to own an important Jaeger-LeCoultre Tourbillon. 41mm stainless steel case, the beautifully symmetrical sunburst silver dial with tourbillon at 6 and 24hr register at 12, features an ingenious ‘jumping date’ hand to prevent it obscuring the tourbillon. Powered by JLC’s self-winding calibre 978, waterproof to 50m and fitted to a matte brown JLC alligator strap, secured by the JLC folding clasp. Sold with JLC box and papers.
