The Chronospace Military M78366 is a bold timepiece that’s a noteworthy part of the brand’s diverse Professional Collection. Featuring a large 46mm by 15.5mm DLC-coated steel case, the watch is distinguished on the wrist with its deeply toothed compass bezel, pump pushers, and guard-flanked crown.

On the dial, a hybrid analog-digital display is at work, with a black background that is contrasted by white LCD markers. With a focus on legibility in even the most extreme environments, the Chronospace Military features a diverse range of functions, including a 1/100th second chronograph with a max of 99 days, perpetual calendar, alarm, countdown timer, second timezone, world time, and, of course, standard timekeeping. A Breitling SuperQuartz 78 movement makes these functions possible, the thermocompensated quartz caliber is naturally chronometer certified and helpfully displays an end-of-life indicator as its battery drains.

The Chronospace as a design follows in the footsteps of the 1985-debuted Aerospace, itself an innovative, multifunction chronograph equipped with a then-state-of-the-art hybrid digital-analog display. Yet where Aerospace historically and modernly has been marketed towards more general aviation professionals, the Chronospace found its niche in those requiring even more “intensive professional use” from their timepieces, adding a slide-rule and later compass bezel to the design among various other features that have been phased in and out over the years.
